Bookeen Cybook OdysseyFrench company Bookeen announced a new device today, the Cybook Odyssey, which will be the first eReader to sport the new High Speed Ink System technology.

As opposed to standard E Ink screens, the High Speed Ink System is instantly reactive, putting it on par with the responsiveness of touchscreen LCD tablets and smartphones. Besides working at high speed while maintaining the properties of electronic ink, the Cybook Odyssey has a simplified user experience interface that is “more intuitive” and “inspired by the ergonomics of touchscreen tablets.”

Beyond the High Speed Ink System, Bookeen was somewhat vague in its press release about the other features of the Cybook Odyssey, stating that it will “introduce a range of new features which have not yet been available with electronic ink.” Bookeen did mention some specs, however, including that the Cybook Odyssey eReader will be powered by a Cortex A8 processor (with a clockspeed of 800 MHz), will feature WiFi connectivity, and will have a 6-inch E Ink Pearl wide touchscreen.

No word yet on when or if the Cybook Odyssey will be coming stateside, but it is scheduled to be released in Europe “in the forthcoming weeks.” The price point also has yet to be specified by Bookeen.
