CES 2013At a pre-show press event in Las Vegas called CES Unveiled, Toon Boom Animation, Inc. announced Windows8/RT and iPad editions of its previously Android-only animation app for tablets.

Introduced on Google Play in January for Android tablets, the company’s Boom Goggles app is aimed at letting you “animate just about anything,” said a spokesperson at the Toon Boom booth.

The new Windows 8/RT edition is going live on Microsoft’s Windows8 store this week, whereas the iPad app is still in the final approval stages at Apple for inclusion in Apple’s App Store, she said.

The Android version of the app is free, but a premium edition — which adds more templates, unlimited usage of creative tools, and a camera capture feature — is available for $2.99.

Toon BoomToon Boon, a two-time Emmy Award winner, also produces much costlier Windows and Mac software for animation and storyboarding. Toon Boom Studio, for example, carries an MSRP of $330.

The Android and new Windows 8/RT versions of the Toon Boom app are integrated with Dropbox for content sharing, the spokesperson said.

The iOS edition — to be known as Flip Boom for iPad — is slated to allow for content sharing through Apple’s cloud infrastructure.
