Dell Debuts Inspiron Duo Netbook/Tablet Hybrid

What is it about the tablet form factor that lends itself to novel devices? The Toshiba Libretto W100 looks like a Nintendo DS but acts like a laptop. The Lenovo U1 — if and when it is released — defies categorization. And now Dell has added to the list of device oddities with the Inspiron Duo, a netbook and tablet convertible featuring a bizarre swivel screen that literally turns on two hinges 180 degrees within its frame.

Dell showed off the Duo at their IDF 2010 keynote, announcing core specs, which include a 10-inch screen, Windows 7 Home Premium OS and dual-core Atom N550 processor. Also revealed, the Duo will support WiFi and WiMAX.

Dell did not announce pricing, claiming only that the device will hit the market by the end of 2010.
