DreamWorks Prepping a Tablet for Kids
DreamWorks Animation will soon release an Android tablet for children, dubbed the DreamTab. This will feature original DreamWorks content based on current characters, such as Shrek. The tablet will be available this spring, along with a host of accessories.
According to The New York Times, the 8-inch tablet will go on sale for under $300. DreamWorks has partnered with Fuhu, the company behind the Nabi line of tablets to create the device.
Rumors also suggest a 12-inch version of the tablet could also be in the works.
Content will automatically be downloaded to the tablets, so it can be watched and interacted with as soon as it becomes available. According to the NYT, content is going to include a Shrek skit telling the children to shut off the tablet according to parental controls.
The DreamTab will also come with the same stylus used by DreamWorks animators, and will including drawing lessons for its users.
The companies claim the DreamTab can also be used like any other tablet in “parent mode”, and it is going to offer the same computing power as an iPad.
