FCC Causes E-reader Maker Bankruptcy

Netherlands-based iRex Technologies, makers of the iRex 800SG and iRex1000s, filed for bankruptcy earlier this week, partly because of FCC procedures that delayed the release of their new DR800 ebook reader.

Because of the delays, iRex could not release the DR800 in time for the holidays, causing iRex to miss the money-making season. iRex previously released ebook readers in 2006, before the popular Amzon Kindle hit the market. Their latest device, the DR800, had an 8.1-inch eInk screen, 3G connection, and would receive books from the Barnes & Noble bookstore. It was briefly featured on the Best Buy website for preorder before being pulled.
