A new report from Forrester Research predicts that the number of tablets being used will explode in the coming years.
Researchers there are saying that while 56 million tablets were purchased worldwide in 2011, 375 million tablets will be sold by 2016, representing an annual growth rate of about 46 percent. In addition to that, they believe that tablet usage by 2016 will skyrocket to 760 million. Forrester also predicts that Apple will continue to hold on its lead in the market.
As iOS and Android products continue to sell well in the market, the report also shows that the Windows will start picking up sales in the next few years. Frank Gillett, one of Forrester’s researchers, believes that Windows 8 will play a vital role in the market, once it gets going. “Microsoft will be a significant player, but one chasing a leader with a multi-year head start,” Gillett said.
Also, “proprietary Android” tablets like the Amazon Kindle Fire that run heavily tweaked versions of Android that have little resemblances to the stock Google OS will outnumber standard Android tablets by 2014, according to the report.
