The struggling Barnes & Noble Nook e-reader will live on, but in a different form.
Barnes & Noble has teamed up with Samsung to create a co-branded 7-inch tablet, the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook, in August. It will be a fully-functional version of the recently-released Galaxy Tab 4 that also comes with Barnes & Noble’s customized Nook software to provide access to over 3 million digital books, magazines, and newspapers.
Barnes & Noble will continue to offer its inexpensive Nook GlowLight, a backlit e-ink reader, and support its media on other tablets, including the Apple iPad. By relying on Samsung’s tablet expertise, Barnes & Noble can focus on delivering Nook Media content, sales of which have also been lagging in recent years.
Samsung and Barnes & Noble did not disclose pricing information for the Galaxy Tab 4 Nook.
