Gates to leave Microsoft, Ballmer to Follow?

So I kicked back at work, reading the local paper on Friday afternoon (yes, some of still read print media!). An article caught my eye about Bill Gates resigning from Microsoft. Turns out, Bill G. is stepping down as Lead Software Architect to pursue more time with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a charity. He will remain as Chairman of Microsoft, and has no intentions to sell his majority stock. The entire process of phasing out will take about two years.

Ballmer to Follow?

This morning, another story on my RSS feeds caught my attention again: Ballmer may leave too? With the delay of the Vista OS release date, many internal employees are calling for Ballmer to set a resignation date. Though many believe Ballmer will not last long – once Gates cleans his desk! Recently, Forbes conducted a survey to find the CEOs with highest approval rating: Ballmer received a 31%, behind only Carly Fiorina of HP and Larry Ellison of Oracle. Perhaps the pressure to leave is on?
