UPDATE: This deal has expired.

Despite what Microsoft advertisements imply, Surface tablets don’t come with keyboards, these have to be purchased separately. But that’s changing…for a short time.

Microsoft Touch CoverThe Microsoft Store is currently running a deal in which customers who purchase any Surface tablet will receive a free Touch Cover — a dual-purpose accessory that functions as a keyboard and a protective cover.

The offer, which ends Saturday, includes the free cover with the purchase of a Surface Pro 2, Surface 2, or Surface RT, including refurbished Surface and Surface Pro units.

Customers who purchase any of the above tablets will receive a free Touch Cover, not the newer Touch Cover 2.

The accessory has a flat surface with capacitive keys, and is typically priced at $80. It differs from Microsoft’s other dual-purpose keyboard/protective cover, the Type Cover, which has actual moving keys.

This special offer ends Saturday, March 29.
