According to sources, Google may be taking a leap into the tablet market by releasing a 7-inch tablet later this year.
The Google-branded tablet will allegedly sport a 1280 x 800 resolution and will run Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS. Production is expected to begin in April and when completed, will produce between 1.5 and 2 million units.
Reports back in January said that the Google tablet will be priced around $199 to compete with the Kindle Fire. Amazon shipped 5.3 million Kindle Fires in the fourth quarter of 2011, so it’s no surprise that Google wants to try its luck with the market.
The small-screen tablet market may get even more competition by the end of 2012. Along with the Kindle Fire, Barnes & Noble NOOK, and the possible Google tablet, Apple is reportedly testing a smaller version of the iPad.
