Griffin Unleashes iPad Controlled Helicopter

Add “fly a chopper” to the list of things you can do with an iPad, all thanks to Griffin’s new HELO TC helicopter, which is now available on the company’s website.

Apple iPhone and iPod touch owners can control the HELO TC via an accessory dock and free iOS app. The app is iPad compatible though the dock won’t fit around the tablet’s larger design.

The accesory dock requires four AAA batteries, while the chopper recharges via USB, with a single charge lasting for approximately eight minutes, according to Griffin. The twin-rotored, indoor HELO TC helicopter sports a lightweight metal frame with a black polycarbonate body.

Two flight modes are available: Touch Control, using the Multi-Touch display to control the throttle and joysticks; and Tilt to Steer mode, which uses the iPad’s accelerometers to control movement. The app can record and store three Flight Plans, allowing users to repeat their favorite flight pattern. Thanks to support for three different infrared signal sets, up to three helicopters can be flown simultaneously.

The toy also comes with spare rotor blades and is available now online for $49.99.Griffin claims the chopper will in stores in time for Christmas.
