HP Targets Business Users with New Android, Windows Tablets

HP is making a big push into the market for business tablets by introducing a range of Android and Windows devices.

Starting off the new models are the HP Pro Slate 8 and HP Pro Slate 12, whose names reflect their screen sizes. Both run Google Android on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, have casings that are under 8 mm thick, come with the HP Duet Pen, which uses Qualcomm Snapdragon digital pen technology on both the tablet and regular paper. The 8-inch model is one of the first with Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

The Pro Slate 8 is available now with a starting price of $449, and the Pro Slate 12 is also debuting today at $569.

Those who prefer Microsoft Windows Pro might be interested in the HP Pro Tablet 408 G1, an 8-inch model that runs an Intel Atom processor. It includes a micro-HDMI port, up to 64 GB of storage, and an 8 MP rear camera with flash. HP will release a collection of mobile accessories for this device, which is available now for $299.

Vertical Markets

Several of the models unveiled today have been designed for specific environments.

The HP ElitePad 1000 G2 Healthcare Tablet has a 2D barcode reader and an antimicrobial treatment to protect the product. It can be cleaned easily, and meets IP 54 specifications for dust and water protection.

There’ll also be an alternate version called the HP ElitePad 1000 G2 Rugged Tablet that will be IP 65 rated for water and dust. It has passed MIL-STD 810 testing, and will include up to 20 hours of battery life and a 2D barcode reader.

The healthcare version can be purchased today $1,499. The rugged version is expected to be available in February with a starting price of $1,599.

Obviously, both are modified versions of the HP ElitePad 1000 G2.

There will be both Windows and Android versions of the HP Pro Tablet 10 EE, which has been designed for the education market. It passes IP-52 testing for dust and moisture, is built to withstand the rigors of school, and includes an on-board slot for the optional stylus, plus a hard-wired keyboard base option.
