Best Buy, the exclusive retailer of the HTC Flyer 7-inch tablet with pen-input technology, has announced an official launch date for the device. The HTC Flyer will officially arrive on May 22, just two days from the writing of this article. Best Buy’s announcement did not detail the Flyer’s price, but a look at the retailer’s online store shows the Flyer available for pre-order for $500.
The Flyer will be the first tablet ever crafted by smartphone manufacturer HTC. It will be a Wi-Fi-only device, while its rebranded 4G counterpart, the EVO View 4G from Sprint, is expected to arrive sometime this summer.
At $500, the Flyer costs the same amount as a 16GB Wi-Fi iPad 2 with its main appeal being its support of stylus input. However, news recently leaked out that not only will the digital pen sell separately, but it will also cost $80.
The HTC Flyer will come with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), with a potential update to Honeycomb in the future. It will also feature a 1.5 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 5 MP rear-facing and 1.3 MP front-facing cameras, Bluetooth, and HDMI out.
TabletPCReview has already taken an early first look at the HTC Flyer and will have a comprehensive review of the tablet in the very near future, so hold on to your hats and N-trig pens.
