The Hulu iPad app is finally here, packaged as part of the new subscription-based Hulu Plus service.
For $9.99 per month, users can subscribe to Hulu Plus and stream every current-season episode of current television series to their iPhone, iPad over WiFi and 3G and internet-connected Samsung Blu-ray players and HDTVs in addition to PC and Mac.
- Modern Family
- Family Guy
- The Office
- 30 Rock
- Grey’s Anatomy
- Desperate Housewives
- Saturday Night Live
- Parks & Recreation
In addition, complete series runs of classic shows are available, including The X-Files, Arrested Development and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In his blog, Hulu CEO CEO Jason Kilar claims the service is also ad-supported, meaning shows will feature commercials.
The iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone app is available from Apple and will work with a Hulu Plus subscription, which Hulu is currently handing out to invitees in waves. Users can currently sample a handful of free titles with the Hulu Plus app and no subscription. Kilar claims users interested in the service should follow Hulu on Twitter or Facebook for information on Hulu Plus invitations. Kilar also claims Hulu will open up the service to all “as soon as we’re ready.”
Users streaming Hulu Plus content to multiple devices will be able to pick up on one unit where they left off on another. So for example, if you are watching Glee on your TV and stop halfway through, you resume from the same point on your iPad through the Hulu Plus app.
Fans of the original Hulu.com have nothing to fear in Hulu Plus as Kilar claims the free service will continue. “Hulu Plus is not a replacement for Hulu.com. Hulu Plus is a new, revolutionary ad-supported subscription product that is incremental and complementary to the existing Hulu service.”
