The chip-making giant, Intel, just released a checklist of features it would like hardware partners to include in future Windows 8 tablets.

Intel would like to see its Atom Z2760 Clover Trail Chip powering these future devices. The dual-core Atom is said to feature a burst mode for quick performance boosts and Hyperthreading for quad-core-like performance when needed.

The list of hardware requirements includes:

  • Tablet design: Intel proposed that the tablets fall into two basic sizes: 10-inch tablets and hybrid 11-inch designs with physical keyboards.
  • Battery life:  A tablet with more than nine hours of battery.
  • Connectivity: 3G/4G, which is a must-have for tablets nowadays.
  • Weight/thickness: Under 1.5 pounds. Thickness, as proposed, is less than 9mm.
  • Miscellaneous: NFC (near field communication) and Wi-Fi Direct.

Just as it is doing with the Ultrabook form factor, Intel seems to be twisting arms to ensure the Windows 8 tablet its chips power meet certain hardware standards.
