The Apple iPad has a unique ability to generate rumors ahead of its time, and the iPad 3 is carrying on this proud tradition with recent gossip sprouting that the tablet will be a 3D device.
Things got kicked off in Hollywood, where one insider claimed “The fact that the iPad 3 is 3D is a dead cert.” Supposedly studios are currently attempting to produce large quantities of 3D media in preparation for the world’s most popular tablet becoming a potential platform for the extra-dimensional content.
Next on the list of sources is Foxconn, a major component manufacturer for Apple and the iPad. It supposedly told industry sources straight up that the iPad 3 would be 3D.
A third tidbit of information could also possibly lend credence to the claim. One source, a Japanese blog, discovered that Apple has been ordering glasses-free 3D LCD panels. However Apple could be using these for a number of devices, such as the iPod Touch.
Only one brand name 3D-supporting tablet currently exists on the market, the recently released and reviewed LG G-Slate. However 3D technology is becoming more pervasive in mobile devices, as demonstrated by the release of the Nintendo 3DS and the planned release of the HTC EVO 3D.
