iPad Air 2, iPad Pro Could Sport Upcoming Apple A8 Processor
The refreshed version of the iPad Air and the rumored iPad Pro that are expected to be released later this year will allegedly be powered by a new processor developed by Apple.
Development on the Apple A8 chip is at a very early stage, according to a report by DigiTimes. What its specs will be are not yet known, other than it will likely be faster than its predecessor. More power will be needed if the iPad Pro has four times the resolution of Apple’s current tablets, as has been rumored.
The processor will replace the Apple A7, the first 64-bit CPU designed for iOS, which debuted last year in the iPad Air and iPhone 5S.
Production of the Apple A8 is supposedly set to begin in the second quarter of this year, so it can be included in tablets and smartphones that launch this fall.
