Previously, a 32GB version of this mid-size tablet was $399. Now, the same amount of money gets 128 GB of storage, and the 32 GB version has been discontinued.
Nothing else about the iPad mini 4 has changed. It still runs the same Apple A8 processor, with a 2048 x 1536 display.
This tablet is available now in silver, gold, and grey casings. Adding built-in 4G LTE increases the price by $130.
End of the iPad mini?
While improving the iPad mini 4 storage capacity, Apple also dropped the iPad mini 2 from its product lineup. Previously, this model sold for $269.
It’s possible that the release of a $329 9.7-inch iPad signals the end of Apple’s line of smaller, 7.9-inch tablets. As discussed, the iPad mini 4 sells for $399, so users can get a bigger tablet for $70 less. Sales of the mid-size iPad models have been dropping off in recent years as many consumers opt instead for a 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus. Apple may soon decide to put this form factor out to pasture.
The iPad mini 4 launched back in 2015, and the move to 128 GB is apparently Apple’s attempt to keep it selling, rather than replace it with an updated model.
