At one point there was speculation that Apple would unveil a smaller version of the iPad at the same time as its next iPhone. That’s looking very unlikely now.
Apple has sent out invitations to a press event for Sept. 12, a week from today. The image that is part of this email shows a large “12” with its shadow forming a “5”. Most are taking this as a sign that the iPhone 5 will be announced.
There is, however, no hint of an iPad.
Most of the evidence now points to Apple introducing its first 7-8 inch tablet at some point in October. This would keep it from being overshadowed by the company’s next-generation smartphone, which is expected to sell by the million in the coming weeks.
More about the Apple iPad Mini
Said to sport the same 1024 x 768 resolution as the first- and second-generation tablets from Apple, the iPad Mini will have a 7.85-inch display and will lack bezels along the sides in portrait mode
Naturally, it will debut running Apple iOS 6. The upcoming device could use the same smaller Dock Connector that is expected in the iPhone 5, and 4G LTE connectivity is expected to be an option.
It is apparently being created to compete directly with 7-inch tablets like the Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire 2. Part of this will be a low price, which could be $200 or $250.
