Google may have posted a sneak peek of an upcoming Android tablet on its website… a device that might take the place of the Nexus 10 II.
There was a picture of an unknown tablet posted on Google’s Apps & Entertainment page. This device is not the Google Nexus 7 II that was released earlier this year — the screen was too large and the bezels too small.
This has raised speculation that a Google Nexus 8 is in the offing.
The picture has since been modified so that the tablet appears to be the Nexus 7 II. However, the original device appears in the photo at right.
Whither the Google Nexus 10?
Google was expected to unveil the second generation of its Nexus 10 at the same time it formally announced Android 4.4 (KitKat), but it didn’t happen.
The company could be planning to take the wraps off the Nexus 10 II later, but it’s also possible this model may never see the light of day.
Small and mid-size tablets are more popular than larger ones. Analysts say that Apple’s iPad mini outsells the full-size iPad two-to-one. Google may be following this trend with an 8-inch Nexus instead of a 10-inch one.
