Since last year, the market for eReaders such as the Amazon Kindle and the Barnes & Noble Nook has been steadily increasing. As such, the competition has been heating up and the latest reports show the Kindle leading the charge.
Barnes & Noble has been experiencing an increase in terms of Nook sales. An article by the New York Times shows that the bookselling company has 27 percent of the eReader market. However, this pales in comparison to the market share of the Amazon Kindle, which has “at least 60 percent” of the market, according to the article. Barnes & Noble also reported that the Nook saw its holiday sales increase 70 percent. But, again, the growth is miniscule compared to the Kindle’s 177 percent increase during the same time period.
Amazon has a significant lead in the market and doesn’t look like it’ll be losing its grip any time soon. That being said, Barnes & Noble is preparing the next version of the Nook in hopes to reduce the margin of sales between the companies. The newest version of the Nook is expected to be released in the spring.
