Kno Incorporated, makers of the dual screen tablet the Kno, announced today that it has locked up $46 million in equity and debt financing. Secured through lead investor Andressen Horowitz, a Silicon Valley venture capital firm, Kno will “use the new capital to continue its product innovation and assist with the first shipment of product later this year,” according to a press release.
The Kno is a two-panel, LCD touch-screen tablet which blends multimedia and reading capabilities on its 14.1-inch displays. This is all in attempt to properly support eTextbooks for the student population at which it is aimed.
“Textbooks have rich and beautiful content in extreme high color. If you’re a biology student, how are you going to look at a picture of a cell and in only sixteen shades of gray?” said Kno co-founder and CEO Osman Rashid in an interview with TabletPCReview earlier this year.
Kno Inc. has reason to believe that the student population poses a bright future for its device. The company believes that by 2013, 11-percent of total textbook sales will come from tablets.
