Live From CTIA Wireless in LAS VEGAS – Wacom Gives Future Tablet PC “the Finger”.

Our very own Brian has been patrolling the show floor CTIA Wireless 2006 in Las Vegas. Today he stopped by the Wacom Technology booth #4763 to check out some of the new enhancements on prototype input panels. Wacom Technology is the the world’s leading manufucturer and the maker of the “Penabled” standard touchscreen/input panel technology.

I often find myself wanting to reach for my tablet display without a pen wishing I could literally just “touch” the screen. Perhaps future Tablet PCs will allow use of the electromagnetic pen or a finger to activate input on the digitizer.

This is a new input panel Wacom is working with. It’s both electromagnetic for the pen and touch sensitive. Picture two shows Brian drawing with his finger. This same display works with the standard pen as well. This is an early prototype. It takes the same space as a traditional pen input panel, same power. There is a higher cost though, the first units are probably 30% more than traditional “electromagnetic only” panels.

Brian here demonstrates his exceptional talents in the visual arts!

For those users who are truly “touchy feely”, the future advancements of Wacom input panels look to be right up your alley!

Thanks Brian for the info. and pics. For more info. check out the Wacom site.
