Logitech, the company that is best known for its universal remote controls, has a new device that will allow you to use your iOS or Android-based tablet as a controller instead.

Logitech Harmony LinkThe Harmony Link, an oval-shaped module, will be designed to sit among the other electronics in your entertainment system. Once plugged in, the device can be linked up with your Wi-Fi network and can facilitate a universal remote controller function on an iPad, iPhone or Android device through an app that acts as an interface.

The free downloadable app will provide an entertainment management system in an organized display. After inputting your TV service provider’s name, the app will lay out all current and future programming in a graphical interface.

To choose a show, users will scroll through a series of TV programs then tap to select their preferred sitcom. The Harmony Link will then power on the TV and tune the station to the designated channel. If necessary the device will also turn on a home theater receiver and switch to the appropriate input.

The Harmony Link can be operated by more than one device, allowing multiple users in the house access to a universal remote. Logitech also claims the gadget isn’t just for TV and can be used while watching Blu-Ray or DVD movies, listening to music or playing games. The Harmony Link is available for preorder now and will cost $99.99.
