Some of the early reviews of the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 were somewhat critical of its battery life. While this tablet could go longer than its predecessor, it didn’t seem to be living up to the potential of its Haswell processor.

Microsoft Surface Pro 2In battery tests performed by Anantech, Microsoft’s new Windows 8.1 tablet lasted 6.7 hours on a single charge, compared to 4.7 hours for the first-generation Surface Pro.

Since the release of this model, however, Microsoft introduced a firmware update, and the situation has changed significantly: the Surface Pro 2 is now getting 8.3 hours on a single charge in Anantech‘s test.

This test involves web browsing. In a video-playback test, the tablet went from 6.7 hours to 7.3 hours by installing this firmware.

It seems clear that anyone who hasn’t updated their Surface Pro 2 recently should do so soon.
