Is Microsoft on the verge of introducing a smaller, more affordable version of the Surface?
Some market observers have speculated that Microsoft plans to produce a Surface Mini, but the reports are unconfirmed. The tablet is said to have an 8-inch screen and run Windows RT 8.1, rather than the regular version of Windows used on the full-size Surface Pro 2.
Microsoft has planned an event on May 20 to discuss its Surface tablet, with a reference to a “small gathering”, which some suggest could foreshadow the release of a smaller version of the company’s flagship tablet.
Mid-size tablets are among the best selling Windows models, generally because they are the most affordable. A smaller version of the Surface would face competition from the similarly-sized Asus VivoTab Note 8, Dell Venue Pro 8, and others. It would be the only 8-inch tablet running Windows RT, however.
