Microsoft is expected to launch three tablets before the end of this year. Two full-size models are expected to be announced next week, but shoppers will reportedly have to wait for the mid-size one.
This tablet will have an 8-inch display, so it will be noticeably smaller than Microsoft’s 10.6-inch models. This will make it one of a number of mid-size Windows tablets either already out or expected soon.
The device will allegedly run Windows RT 8.1 on an ARM-based processor from Qualcomm. Devices that run the RT version of Windows are typically less expensive than ones that use the regular one, but lack backward compatibility with software written for earlier versions of Windows.
It’s not known exactly when Microsoft will unveil the Surface Mini, aside from the unconfirmed reports that it won’t be at a press event on Sept. 23, where the Surface Pro 2 and Surface RT 2 are expected to be the stars.
