There may be something to all these iPad mini rumors that keep popping up. The latest suggests that Apple will launch a smaller iPad in Q3 2012 and that it will be priced between $249 and $299.
The report comes from the Chinese site NetEase, which claims Foxconn and Pegatron have been tapped to build the iPad mini. There may be 6 million iPad minis ready for launch to meet the demand.
Apple iPad mini rumors have been around since the launch of the original iPad in 2010. However, they have picked up in recent months, with many claiming the device will have a 7.85-inch display (all iPads have a 9.7-inch display). Though Steve Jobs once described 7-inch tablets as being “dead on arrival” in reference to the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, Apple now faces real competition in the form of smaller, low-cast tablets from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Lenovo, and Samsung. Google is also rumored to be working with ASUS on a low-cost Google Nexus tablet.
