Reuters has reported that four inside sources “familiar with the situation” said that component suppliers for the iPad are preparing for a new round of component production for the first quarter of 2011. Two of the sources said that the components were intended for a new version of Apple’s tablet, lending significant credence to earlier reports about the iPad 2.
The other two sources that Reuters spoke with could only confirm that they were producing components previously used in the original iPad.
Of the two claiming to produce components for the new tablet, one said that it would feature both front and rear cameras, with the other saying that the new model would be “slimmer, lighter and have a better resolution.”
Among the component suppliers for the next batch of iPads, be they new or old models, are touchscreen chip designer Wintek Corp, battery maker Simplo Technology Co Ltd., and AVY Precision, an “unlisted maker of covers for electronic products,” the four sources told Reuters.
