Movie Buffs Get The Latest on the Oscars with the Official App

The best-known awards in the movie industry will be presented tonight, and ABC has put out the official Oscars app.

Official Oscar AppThis gives information on the nominees, as well as access to movie trailers, exclusive videos, and photos.

When the festivities kick off later today, this app will let users watch their favorite celebrities as they walk the Red Carpet, and follow the winners backstage in the Dolby Theatre.

There will be over a dozen live backstage and Red Carpet video streams. In “Watch Mode”, correspondents will guide users, or “Direct Mode” will allow them to control what cameras to view.

?Our goal is to create a really full, immersive experience leading up to, during and after the Oscars,? said Karin Gilford, SVP of Digital Media for ABC.

The one thing the app will not do is stream the actual Oscar ceremony — it is being presented by ABC, who wants people to watch its broadcast on their TVs.

The official Oscars App is now available for free in the Apple App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. All Android 4.0 devices can get a version from Google Play. There is a version for the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD in the Amazon appstore.
