Sony claims this upcoming device is going to be the slimmest tablet in the world. It is going to be just 0.27 inches (6.9mm) thin. It will weigh in a 1 lbs. and 2.4 ounces.
The Xperia Z Itis going to run Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) on a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with 2GB of RAM. It will have 16GB of internal storage, and a microSD slot to add additional capacity. AN upgrade to Android 4.2 has been promised.
This will be a full-size tablet with a 10.1 inch touchscreen at a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. It will be water- and dust-resistent (IP55 & IP57).
Other features will include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Qualcomm NFC. There will be an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2 MP front one. It will even feature an IR port to allow it to be used as a univarsal remote.
This slate is going to be able to function in tandem with the Sony Xperia Z smartphone, wirelessly swapping files back-and-forth with NFC. ?Xperia Tablet Z reinforces our intention to be a leading player in the premium Android device market, by building on the principles established by Xperia Z and perfectly optimizing them for the tablet form factor,? says Kaz Tajima, head of UX creative design and planning at Sony Mobile Communications.
The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is scheduled to be released in the U.S. this spring. There is no word yet on price.
