Best Buy Now Selling UMPCs
Retail store giant, Best Buy, has jumped on the bandwagon. They have teamed up with Dynamism to bring consumers UMPCs and their accessories. Best Buy has even branded them, "Escape. Be the first. Set the trend." I find that to be very interesting. I guess some mainstream users probably don’t know much about UMPCs and now they have a chance to. Best Buy is carrying the Asus R2H, Raon LX800, the OQO model 01+, the Flybook V33i and the Samsung Q1.
Lenovo ThinkPad Notebook PC Brand Stays on Top
Lenovo recently announced it has earned top rankings in notebook brand awareness and customer satisfaction in the fourth quarter of last year, according to Technology Business Research (TBR). In the latest report from TBR, “Corporate IT Buying Behavior & Customer Satisfaction Study: Notebooks,” Lenovo’s rankings increased in 4Q 2006, overshadowing some of its largest competitors in the areas of reliability and product design.
For the eighth consecutive quarter, Lenovo dominated the area of hardware reliability, confirming the long-standing ThinkPad reputation for durability and exceptional product design. Noting improvement in specific categories from the previous quarter, TBR recognized Lenovo for making substantial progress within the areas of notebook value, ease of doing business, repair time and overall satisfaction.
The BumbleBee UMPC Spectrum Analyzer Hits the Field
The BumbleBee Tablet is a Windows XP Tablet UMPC spectrum analyzer all-in-one system. The calibrated receiver measures a combo of popular wireless bands including Wi-Fi, Wi-MAX, ISM, Public Safety, Bluetooth and more. The BumbleBee Tablet takes the power of sophisticated laboratory spectrum analyzers and delivers it to installers in the field and engineers in the lab, which is what Berkeley Varitronics Systems (BVS) is banking on.
Features of the BumbleBee Tablet:
- RF Spectrum Analysis in your hands or on your desktop
- Identify WiMAX, RFID, Wi-Fi, 802.11 & other ISM Interference
- Large, 7" WVGA, Touch-Screen Interface
- Windows XP UMPC Intel Pentium Tablet
- 60GB HD storage
- Channel Power measurements in dBm
- Peak Search/Hold with up to 4 Peak Hold Waveform Traces
- User Selectable Power Triggers
- Spectrogram/Histogram Measurements
- Waveform JPEG Snapshots with Preview & Printout
- Optional Directional Antennae for 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Frequencies
- Honeycomb Interference Mapping Software Support (optional)
UMPCs haven’t caught the attention of the mainstream market, but BVS is hoping to make a splash in the spectrum analyzer field. I would say this bright yellow Tablet has to be marketed at businesses, especially with the $4,500 price tag and that doesn’t include the mapping software, which will cost you an extra $2,500.
