Panasonic and Verizon Wireless Announce EV-DO Rev A on Full Line of Toughbooks

Panasonic and Verizon Wireless recently announced several new notebook certifications for embedded access to the EV-DO Revision A-based BroadbandAccess service from Verizon Wireless.

Panasonic products now certified on the Verizon Wireless Revision A network include the rugged Toughbook 30 notebook and Toughbook 19 Tablet PC, which are designed and tested for military, public sector and industrial users in extreme environments. The semi-rugged Toughbook 74 notebook and business-rugged ultra-portable and thin-and-light notebooks the T, W and Y series, which are designed for business travelers and mobile professionals.

Verizons BroadbandAccess with EV-DO Rev. A service allows users to download complex files and email attachments at average speeds of 600 to 1.4 Mbps, and provides upload speeds averaging 500 800 kbps.

Intel’s Notebook CPU Roadmap Unveiled

According to laptoping.com Intel plans to launch their Core 2 Extreme X7800 and Celeron M 540 processors on July 8th, as well as the Core 2 Extreme X7900, Core 2 Duo T7250, T7800, L7700, U2200, U2100 and Celeron 550 on September 2nd.

There is a nice variety of processors on this roadmap including processors designed for gaming notebooks, mainstream notebooks and a newly refreshed lineup of low-voltage processors. VR-Zone published the roadmap of processors along with some information stating that Intel plans to lower the pricing of select mobile processors during the summer.

Samsung Introduces 1.8" and 2.5" Hard Disk Drives

Samsung sets a new benchmark for 1.8 hard disk drive performance with the introduction of its new Spinpoint N2 Series. Featuring the highest available capacity in the 1.8 form factor (120GB) and fastest speed (4200rpm) for notebook performance. The N2 Series drives offer the fastest boot times, lowest power consumption and quietest operation available in the 1.8 form factor.

The new drives, with capacities ranging from 80GB to 120GB, are designed to meet the growing demands for high-capacity storage in compact mobile consumer devices such as PDAs, MP3 players, cell phones, digital cameras and ultra-light notebook PCs. Samsungs new 2.5 hard drives were introduced along with the 1.8" hard drives at the companys storage press conference in New York City. Samsungs new 2.5 family includes the MH80 Series, the worlds first hybrid hard drive offered in 160GB capacity, the Spinpoint M5 Series with single-disk capacities ranging between 60GB and 160GB, and a dual-disk model provides up to 250GB of storage space. The MH80 hybrid hard drive is currently shipping for $299 and the M5 Series is currently shipping for $249 for 250GB.
