News of “Unpatchable” FireFox Security Flaw Spreads

Heh, we gotcha to look! – Barry

If you were on the web at all this weekend chances are you ran across a story about a potential security flaw in FireFox that could render it less secure than the king of unsecure browsers, Microsoft Internet Explorer. The news spread like wild fire after it emerged from an underground users’ conference in San Diego over the weekend. Despite a lack of hard official information or confirmation of the exploit, the web was quick to post headlines such as “IE More Secure Than FireFox?” and do dub the flaw “unpatchable.” Coming on the heels of the discovery and announcement a few weeks ago of several exploitable flaws in FireFox’s javascript interpreter, the new flaws if they are confirmed might take some off the shine off FireFox’s perception as a secure alternative to other browsers. There’s been no official word from Mozzila.org yet, but reportedly Mozilla’s new security chief, Window Snyder, took quite seriously a video of the exploit shown at the conference. For more info you can visit any tech web site, but my advice would be to wait for the dust to settle and see what the official word from Mozilla.org is.

Micro Mac Portable Predicted (Maybe a Tablet?)

Once again the Mac rumor world was in overdrive with speculation of an imminent ultra-portable Mac possibly in Tablet PC/Mac form. The new rumors sprung from Intel Corp’s plans to incorporate NAND flash memory into it’s next-generation notebook platform. The next-generation platform dubbed Santa Rosa and due in early 2007 supposedly will offer nearly instantaneous boot times and reduced power consumption. Now how do we get from there to an ultra-portable Mac Tablet? That’s a darn good question and one you’ll have to ask the rumor sites. In a bit of a stretch of deduction and extrapolation the equation is something like this; A, Apple already has excellent relationships (and pricing structures) with the major flash memory manufacturers due to the iPod and therefore it’s a given they’ll incorporate the technology, + B, the decision to drop the popular 12″ PowerBook has left a perceived hole in Apple’s portable lineup, = C, ultra-portable Mac Tablet with 60GB NAND flash drive, 7″ 1920×1080 touchscreen, GPS, 3G, WiFi, WiMAX, Satellite Radio and TV, Cappuccino Machine, and… well you get the picture. In the interest of full disclosure, I must say that I’m Mac user and wouldn’t mind something like the machine described, but my gut tells me it might be a while before Apple jumps on the UMPC bandwagon.

Logitech diNovo Edge: Ultimate Bluetooth Keyboard

Looking for the ultimate bluetooth keyboard to augment your Slate or Tablet PC? Got $200 burning a hole in your pocket? If you answered yes to the previous two questions, then Logitech has just the beast for you. The diNovo Edge is a follow on to Logitech’s award winning diNovo Media Desktop and surpasses is its predecessor in refined style. The keyboard has a high-gloss finish and is laser cut from a single, semi-translucent piece of black Plexiglass and surrounded by a brushed-aluminum frame. It features an integrated, touch sensitive control panel and scroll wheel. And to keep the juice flowing in this baby, Logitech has for the first time created a rechargeable keyboard with its own charging stand. And of course no gauche RF connection here, this baby is strictly bluetooth. To wrap it up, all this techno and design goodness comes in a package that’s model thin at barely of an inch (watch out it might get banned in Madrid). For more info visit Logitech’s site.
