Tablet PC Based In-Car PC System

Bitportersmedia has an ambitious coding project in the works to turn a Tablet PC into an in-car PC/Navigation system. The project, named DRADIS (Battlestar Galactica fans might recognize the moniker), aims to aid drivers “with their work tasks while driving” which is a little scary until you read that interaction is based on speech recognition and synthesis.  The software makes heavy use of the Tablet PC API and provides navigation, video, and live RSS feeds. It was 25 years ago this weekend that IBM launched the first personal computers. There were popular ‘home’ computers before the IBM PC came along, but none were taken seriously in the business world. When IBM, the king of computing at the time, put its weight behind the concept of a PC on every desk, there was no stopping the juggernaut.
