No Ice Cream Sandwich Treat for Original Galaxy Tab Owners
Owners of the original seven-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab are getting the operating system equivalent of coal in their Galaxy Tabs this Christmas, as Samsung has announced their original Android tablet will not receive an Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 update.
The Galaxy Tab, which currently runs Android Gingerbread 2.3 and was launched last November, lacks adequate RAM and ROM to run Google’s latest OS update alongside the Samsung TouchWiz user interface, according to Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy S smartphone owners are in same boat, as Samsung will not upgrade the popular handset for similar reasons.
Samsung has confirmed that its newer tablets, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9, 7.7, and Tab 7.0 Plus will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich in 2012.
