Last month Barnes & Noble extended the functionality of the NOOK Color with the release of the NOOK Color v1.2 update. Version 1.2 gave the eReader a lot of tablet-like capabilities and features including its own market, which, according to Barnes & Noble, can now proudly claim one million app downloads.
NOOK Apps is Barnes & Noble’s go at creating an exclusive app market for the NOOK Color. It is not as expansive as the Android Market, which serves the large majority of Android devices, but instead offers a much more controlled experience with a collection of apps that are specifically tailored to the seven-inch NOOK Color.
While the v1.2 update first became available late in April, it was not fully offered to all NOOK Color users until May 9, meaning that the one million download milestone mark was reached within about a week of NOOK Apps being widely available.
B&N lists the top five free NOOK Color apps as Fliq Calendar, Fliq Notes, Pulse, NOOK Word of the Day, and Fliq Tasks. The top five paid apps so far have been Angry Birds, Drawing Pad, Solitaire, Aces Jewel Hunt, and Astraware Mahjong.
These apps, along with an ever growing collection of other NOOK Apps, are available to NOOK Color users on the NOOK Boutique at a range of prices.
