Older Apple iPad from AT&T Could Be Banned from Sale

The International Trade Commission (ITC) has ruled that some Apple devices infringe on a patent held by Samsung. These products, including AT&T’s version of the iPad 2 3G, might be banned from sale in the U.S.

The government agency agreed with Samsung that some of the ways these Apple devices use data over a 3G HSPA cellular-wireless connection infringes on a Samsung patent. If Pres. Obama agrees, then these devices will be banned from import and sale.

The only tablet on the list that’s still being offered by AT&T is the iPad 2 3G, which is still around as a more affordable iOS option than the current iPad 4. The ruling also covers the iPhone 4.

This is just a scirmish in a long-running and hard-fought patent war between Apple and Samsung. Apple won the last battle, but now Samsung is getting some payback.
