Apple iPad owners who use their tablet for more than just content consumption will be pleased to know that OnLive is bringing Windows 7 to the iPad via the cloud thanks to a new app that will be available Thursday.

OnLiveOnLive Desktop, a free app, will act as a remote desktop client for Windows 7, giving iPad owners access to a fully functioning Windows desktop, including Microsoft Office apps such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The account comes with 2 GB of storage and features touch based games and utilities as well.

While other applications have duplicated a Windows machine’s desktop on screen, the OnLive Desktop app streams an image of a remote Windows desktop to your iPad, without costing you anything. For storage hungry users, a paid version will be available as well, offering customers 50GB of space and advanced Windows functions.

OnLive made news a few weeks ago when the cloud gaming service brought some of its most popular OnLive titles to tablets. During our review of the service, we found that the interface was well designed and the installation was easy.
