It appears the BlackBerry PlayBook is getting another price cut, this time from multiple retailers.
In an effort to increase unimpressive sales of the tablet, Staples has slashed $200 off the price of the 16, 32 and 64GB models. The office supplier is offering customers $100 in instant savings plus $100 rebate on a Visa prepaid card. Office Depot also offered a similar deal, with customers getting $100 of the PlayBook’s orginal price and then another $100 off thanks to a rebate.
Best Buy’s current sale prices for the QNX-based tablet line up with Staples and Office Depot, though the electronics retailer is advertising its new prices as a limited-time sale that ends Oct. 6. Earlier this month, Best Buy offered the 64GB model for $550, a $150 less than its MSRP.
According to a report from BGR, Walmart is currently offering an unadvertised sale on the 16GB, with the tablet ringing up at $250.
At launch, the BlackBerry PlayBook retailed for $499 and $599 for the 16GB and 32GB versions, respectively. Price cuts from multiple retail partners could mean the PlayBook is on the verge of a fire sale, as RIM reported just 200,000 units shipped into channels during the tablet’s first full quarter of availability.
