While the Kindle Fire hasn’t even hit the market yet, a new report claims that Amazon is already working on a second tablet, which could launch in the second half of next year.
Allegedly, the Foxconn factory has secured orders for the tablet’s successor and is quickly working to produce the device within that time frame. Though Quanta Computer is building the upcoming Kindle Fire, it has been said that Amazon already has a second-generation, quad-core tablet, dubbed “Hollywood,” in the works.
Recent rumors speculate the Hollywood slate to sport a 10-inch design and pack NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 chipset. Though Foxconn has yet to confirm such orders from Amazon, the timeline would match up rather nicely with the rumored 2012 launch of a second tablet from the online retailer.
With the Kindle Fire hitting stores just in time for the Holiday rush, it will be interesting to see if Amazon’s slate will pose a threat to the market’s favorite tablet, the iPad. As Amazon’s first dip into the tabletsphere, the Fire will be an indication to the company how its supposed Hollywood slate will do in 2012.
