Rumor: Lenovo Working on Quad-Core LePad Tablet
Apparently dual-core tablets are soon to become a thing of the past, at least for Lenovo; rumor has it that the company is working on making the jump from dual-core to quad-core CPU platforms.
The Digitimes, citing upstream supply chain partners as its source, is claiming that Lenovo is working on a new, quad-core LePad tablet. According to the report, which was scarce on any other details, the tablet is scheduled to enter mass production on January 1 of 2012, ostensibly giving Lenovo plenty of time to get the device ready for a CES 2012 appearance.
Lenovo found success earlier this year with its Android-based ThinkPad tablet, which we reviewed (and praised it as an excellent mobile tablet for the enterprise), so it would make sense that the company is continuing its pursuits in this vein. Whether or not it can continue to steal market share from Apple, though — according to the Digitimes, Apple’s market share is around 8.4% in Lenovo’s home market of China — remains to be seen.
