The next generation of Office, codenamed Office 15, will reportedly not be feature the Metro style for both the x86 and ARM versions. However, Office 15 will receive a few interface tweaks to make it more touch friendly, including a new menu system.
Rumors indicate that the new edition of Office 15 will still be a traditional desktop app with minor stylistic changes. These sources also say that the Office team originally planned to make Office 15 in Metro style, but don’t have the time to build a true Metro style Windows 8 version of Office before the scheduled launch.
Microsoft is, however, building at least two Metro style Windows 8 Office applications. OneNote and Lync will both be released as Metro style applications through the Windows Store. Windows just announced its Technical Preview for Office 15 earlier this week and a beta is expected to premiere in the summer.
