Microsoft has not revealed how many Surface RT tablets it has sold, and industry analysts disagree on a figure. Still, it’s clear sales aren’t strong.
An analyst with IHS iSuppli, on the other hand, predicts that Microsoft will break through the 1 million mark, but not by much.
The analysts at Detwiler Fenton say that sales are weak because the Surface RT is not broadly available. It is sold only in Microsoft stores and its website. It can’t be purchased at electronics shops, like Fry’s or Best Buy.
The Surface RT debuted in late October as the first device running Windows RT, a new operating system created for tablets running ARM processors. It will be joined in January by a more expensive version that runs Windows 8 Pro.
