Although the recently-introduced Android 4.4 (KitKat) has little to offer current tablets, many users of these devices are still going to want this update. Fortunately, there’s good news for the users of many recent models.

Google Android 4.4 KitKatOne of the advantages of the Google Nexus Series is they get early access to system software upgrades. Although the Nexus 7, Nexus 7 II, and Nexus 10 can not currently be upgraded to KitKat, Google says this will be possible “in the next few weeks”.

Samsung has not yet made an official statement on its plans for Android 4.4 tablets. Information leaking out of this company indicates that a number of its most popular products will be getting the new version: all the Galaxy Tab 3 versions, as well as last year’s Tab 2 models. Upgrades for the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) and Note 8.0 are also expected.

Sony, on the other hand, has officially said it is bringing KitKat to its Xperia Tablet Z.
