Samsung has unveiled its first tablet built specifically for business use. The Galaxy Tab Active is intended to be used in industries such as retail, logistics, and transportation.
It is a ruggedized version of the Galaxy Tab 3 — with its protective cover on, the device will be able to withstand a 1.2-meter drop, and it is going to be water and dust resistant with IP67 certification.
The Galaxy Tab Active will have an 8-inch WXGA (1280 x 800) display, and run Android 4.4 KitKat on a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM. There will be 16GB of internal storage and a microSD slot that can add up to 64GB more.
Samsung is including the “C-Pen” — a stylus that will be stored outside the cover to provide professionals who may have to wear gloves with an alternative input option to their finger.
Its 3.1MP rear-facing camera is intended to allow users to scan barcodes, and the tablet will include NFC technology. A 4450mAh battery will be swappable, so users won’t have to wait while the device recharges.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active will be sold in WiFi-only or WiFi and LTE variations.
It will be available in Titanium Green, and come with the Protective Cover and the C-Pen. Pricing for this business-oriented tablet has not yet been announced.
