Galaxy Tab Down Under

The first sighting occurred earlier this week in Sidney, Australia, where the gadget blog electronista claims to have seen it in the hands of a telecom worker performing live testing. Of course, when pressed, the anonymous user could not provide details on the device other than to say it was different from the iPad and “awesome.”

Electronista did sneak a film peek at the device, and claims the 3G tablet runs the same 1GHz ARM processor as the Galaxy S smartphone and sports a responsive user interface.

China Sighting

Shifting focus to China, where a reader of the Chinese-language site ifanr snapped a few pics of the device with the model number GT-P1000 (confirming earlier leaked information) and running Android 2.2. The tipster claims the seven-inch Galaxy Tab is light and has a “very serious plastic feel.” However, the Galaxy Tab is significantly thicker than the five-inch Dell Streak. He/she also said it sports a 1,023 x 600 pixel resolution, 3.2 megapixel camera, 3G network and eBook application.

Previous Rumors Confirmed?

Previous rumors suggested an 800 x 480 pixel screen. Otherwise, the Australian and Chinese reports do not contradict any earlier information. According to unconfirmed reports, some reiterated in the ifanr article, additional specs include PowerVR SGX 540 graphics processor, front-facing VGA camera, 16GB internal memory, microSD slot, Super AMOLED display, WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, Swype text input, SyncML and JavaScript 1.5.
