The wait isn’t going to be long for the first 8-inch tablet running Windows 8, as the Acer Iconia W3 is going to be released in the U.S. before the end of June.
This is intended for those who aren’t looking for a serious productivity tablet, but rather for one with more of a focus on consumption. It’s low price — just $380 — should draw the attention of those who want a device running the full version of Windows at well below the usual cost. On the other hand, its Intel Atom processor will turn away those who need serious performance.
The Acer Iconia W3 is scheduled to go up for pre-order tomorrow online from Amazon, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Staples and Walmart. When these orders will ship isn’t clear, however. The tablet will be in brick-and-mortar stores by the end of the month.
