Sony has a better-than-average record for offering system software upgrades for its devices. It’s continuing this tradition by promising to bring the Xperia Tablet Z up to the newest version of Android.
Google just took the wraps off of Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) yesterday, and Sony said this morning it will be coming to its latest tablet.
The Tablet Z debuted this spring running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Sony says that an upgrade to Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) could be available in early August. This version of Google’s operating system was released late last year.
The company did not say when the Android 4.3 update will be released for this model. It’s an open question whether this will be before the introduction of the next version of Android, which is expected this fall.
