Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Hands-On Preview

Sony Xperia Z2 TabletIt’s 10.1-inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display will be the same size and resolution as before, and the 8.1- and 2.2-megapixel cameras will also be the same resolution.

Most of the changes in the Xperia Z2 Tablet will be internal, with it running Google Android 4.4 (KitKat) on a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and 3GB of RAM. Its predecessor has a 1.5GHz quad-core chip and 2GB of RAM.

There will be one external improvement though: Sony was able to trim a couple of ounces off the weight, bringing it down to 15.5 oz. so the product is now just under 1 pound.

This tablet was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress, which is going on now in Barcelona. For aditional coverage of this tradeshow, visit our dedicated MWC page.

Just like last year’s model, the Z2 tablet will be water resistant and dustproof.

Sony says the Xperia Z2 Tablet will be released in Europe in March. The company has not yet revealed when it will be available anywhere else, but the U.S. might not be a high priority, as its predecessor sold poorly on this side of the Atlantic.
